Mindy's Box

For grandchildren, us Nana's go the extra mile to make birthday gifts for them.  Actually, these covered wooden boxes really didn't take that much time to make with a hot glue gun and the wonderful supplies from The Rubber Buggy on-line store.

This is a 8x8" wooden box is covered with the stunning Stamperia Flower Alphabet paper with the gorgeous

Prima Marketing - Frank Garcia - Memory Hardware Resin Frames - Vincennes Regal Frame that I colored with pastel Copic Markers.  The beautiful sentiment inside the frame is also in the Stamperia Flower Alphabet paper pad that I cut out and glued behind the frame.

No shabby chic project goes without adding the gorgeous Venise Lace, rhinestone or pearls.

I used these gorgeous two sheets from the Stamperia Flower Alphabet paper pad collection to cover this wooden box using Prima Marketing Memory Hardware Artisan two-sided adhesive 1" tape and a hot glue gun.  I added some NUVO Shimmer Glitter Gloss pen on the sentiment and the flowers to make this stand out more.  You will really love the NUVO Shimmer Glitter Gloss pen for most of your cards and projects.  It is a light shimmer that is just beautiful and easy to apply.
The beautiful floral alphabet was cut out and glued on the front side of the box with the lace glued with a hot glue gun and the Graphic 45 Shabby Chic Door Pull.
I added some pink 10mm Wild Orchid Craft roses on the lace.  The Rubber Buggy has a variety of flowers in different sizes for your projects and cards.

I made my flowers using the beautiful LeCrea Design Pink/Red Flower Foam.
I added small rhinestones in various places on the front to make the shabby chic look stand out a little bit more.

Venise Lace

So I hope I have inspired you to get started on making your foam flowers and using the Stamperia products.   You can purchase the Stamperia papers from The Rubber Buggy on-line store.

As the time comes to celebrate mothers around the country, send a Happy Mother’s Day card personalized for your daughter and daughter-in-law to show your them how much they means to you.  These wonder mothers laugh with our grandchildren to the way she kisses away their pain and always been an amazing parent. This year, use the perfect Happy Mother’s Day sentiment on your card  for your daughter and daughter-in-law to tell her how proud you are of her and how much you love her. The Rubber Buggy on-line store has all of the name-brand supplies that you will need to make your Mother's Day card so special with that WOW from your daughter and daughter-in-law.

The Rubber Buggy was able to get this gorgeous LemonCraft New House of Roses paper back into their store again.  Supplies won't last long since this is such a gorgeous paper collection with many vintage/shabby chic paper pattern pages with 36 paper sheets, 2 pieces per design in the paper pad.
LemonCraft New House of Roses

For both cards, I typed the sentiment and printed it out and glued it behind a decorative frame cut out with metallic gold card stock.  I tore on a sheet of the LemonCraft New House of Roses and glued on top of another patterned paper in this collection.  I sponged on the Tim Holtz Distress Antique Linen ink around the edges of the papers, banners and  the Heartfelt Creations Fleur Border Basic Die Set  (shown on the above card) to give it a vintage/shabby chic appearance.  I added a vintage lace die cut and glued around the edges of the card.  I added some flat back string of pearls to most of my cards like these for that shabby chic look.

Doggie Card

So much fun making cards and projects with

The Rubber Buggy has these adorable Wild Rose Studio stamps, papers and dies in stock and better buy yours right away before they are sold out.
I used both the Wild Rose Studio Dogs in Pots and Wild Rose Studio Cats in The Garden with the Wild Rose Studio Bella's Birthday paper on this card.  I cut out a variety patterned paper from this paper pad in two inch scallop squares for the background.  I stamped the Wild Rose Studio Dogs in Pots on white card stock, colored it with Copic Markers, and cut the stamped image using the Heartfelt Creations Eyelet Oval die set.

I cut out the daisies using the smallest flower in the Tattered Lace Floral Layers Echinacea Flower die set with LeCrea foam flower sheets.  I colored the center of each flower using the magenta color in the Prima Marketing Prima Soft Oil Pastel crayon, glued two flowers together and glued yellow Flower Soft in the center of each daisy.  The sentiment is found in the adorable Wild Rose Studio Cats in Garden stamp set.  I stamped it with Memento Tuxedo Black ink and cut it out with a scallop circle die set.

I added some pearls close to the butterfly and added a butterfly next to the dailies.  I made a bow from white seam binding and used a hot glue gun to glue the bow and daisies onto the card.

Foam Flower Tutorial 101

Beginner's Guide to Foam Flowers
Part 1# Basic Tools, Coloring and Introduction to Shaping Foam Petals

In Part #1,  I will be demonstrating the basic tool, color techniques and basic shaping of foam flower petals for beginners.

Part #2 tutorial will be how to make these flowers shown below.  These are some of the flowers that I made using the foam flower sheets from the LeCrea Designs foam for flowers purchased from The Rubber Buggy.

Basic Tools for Foam Flowers
Iron Hot Glue Gun
  1. Optional of different products to color foam petals and leaves:  Oil Pastels, Ink, PanPastels, Chalk
  2. Scissors or Dies
  3. Optional:  Very Soft Foam/sponge pad to use a ball stylus tool in shaping some petals
  4. Optional: Large and Small Ball Stylus Tool
  5. LeCrea Design Foam for Flowers, Foamiran, or Silk Foam
Iron:  I love this little iron made by Darice that is for crafts like using for foam flowers.  It was only around $9.00 and ordered it through Amazon.  It has three settings and I use the medium hot setting for shaping my foam flowers.  When I put the petal on the iron, I count to 10 and then I am ready to roll it in my fingers, until I feel that the foam is really thin like a flower petal.  Unfold the flower and shape each petal.  I tried other glues like super glue or nail glue and didn't prefer this since I get a tiny amount of glue on my fingers and when I touch the foam, the foam sticks to my fingers and tears apart when trying to get the foam off of my fingers.

Hot Glue Gun:  I am using a hot glue gun with two settings.  When the hot glue gun gets too hot for me to handle, I reset it on low and this works well without burning my fingers.

Large and Small Ball Stylus Tool and Soft Foam Pad:  Not that many people who do foam flowers use a ball stylus tool but I found it very useful to shape the ends of my petals and some of my small flowers on a soft foam pad.  I will be demonstrating this later in this tutorial.

Colors to use on foam:  There are a variety of ways to use to color the foam flowers especially when you want the flowers to look more real.  I have used a variety of products but like the
Prima Marketing Soft Oil Pastels and PanPastels.  Many people apply the oil pastels first on a sponge but I just apply the oil pastels right on the foam.  When you start ironing the foam and rolling it, the colors will blend through the petal.

Foam:  Flower foam comes in different thickness of foam 0.8mm or 0.6mm thick which look a bit like paper, easy to shape when warm and silk foam which is very thin. This foam, LeCrea Designs for Foam Flowers,  a special kind of foam dedicated to flower making.  You can buy foam in many colors but I use white almost all the time for my flowers and green for the leaves.  I use the Prima Marketing Soft Oil Pastels to color most of my flower petals.

Examples of Dies and Basic Flower Template

I  use dies often for my foam flowers but have cut petals with scissors using a template that is shown below.  When using scissors, I cut about 4 petals at once. The best part is that these can be die cut with your Big shot machine or any other die cutting machine.

The Rubber Buggy carries beautiful Heartfelt Creations flower dies.  If this is the first time you are making foam flowers, easier to use the largest flower die from one of these die sets.
Heartfelt Creation Large Sweet Peony die set

Using a well-know basic petal template is to cut the square pieces from heavy cardstock to form your template for the petals especially for roses
Cut the three edges of square pieces in curve shape to give them petal shapes.

How to make the basic foam flowers - Also on U-Tube shown below
1. Cut out or die cut the flowers
2. Put on the medium hot iron, turn the steam off.
3. After count of 10, release from the iron fold and roll in your fingers until you feel that
the foam is really thin like a paper.
4. Unfold the flower and shape each petal using your fingers and occasionally the large ball stylus tool.
5. For one flower you may use 2-3 layers of petals, stick them together with hot glue
6. Make a hole in the middle, put stamens through with a crochet needle and secure on the bottom of the flower  or inside with hot glue.
